A summer school at Istanbul Technical University now offers the opportunity to experience and learn creativity. Over a period of 4 weeks the students, who study mainly technical and scientific subjects on the large campus, can expand their knowledge and skills in creative fields together and interdisciplinary. Four subjects are offered: Painting and photography, gardening and cooking, music and theatre, philosophy and cognitive science.
This will take place in two pavilions on the site of the former football pitch, near the cafeteria, the rectorate and easily accessible by public transport. The surroundings offer a lot of nature, the nearby park can be used additionally.
The pavilions are an hommage to the traditional Turkish house, with its large garden and sofa (hall).
The facade consists of concrete bricks, arranged to a modern interpretation of old latticeworks, to offer a semi-private, shaded and ventilated place. It is mounted on an existing staircase, which becomes the seating element. The rear wall will be planted with boston ivy. A spring in the centre of the space, will attract students to rest there in a relaxed atmosphere.
